See the little guys above? Yes well, those little guys have been my sanity the past few weeks.
How, you may ask. Well over the past year my life has been insane and while writing is an escape there are also expectations and people waiting for the third book. I don't mind that, in fact I rather enjoy it in the end, but it does come with it's stresses.
Between the three kids, and the Noah's ark of animals, there is quite a lot to fill my days. Still being an artist is what I am. I am not happy if I am not creating.
So I draw and I paint and I write. Another love of mine has been clay. I fell in love with it in school and have done a few things here and there over the years. Well my wife bought me some Sculpey colored clay and told me to go play with it when I was super stressed one day.
I ended up having a blast.
It was so nice to create things and not have to paint them after.
There are two loves in the fantasy world for me. One is the little creatures. You can call them brownies or gremlins or goblins, but they are the little curious and sometimes mischievous ones.
The other is Gryphons(griffins, griffons). These are something that I love even more than dragons, which says a lot. I mean big, bird-cats, what isn't to love?
So with these guys in mind I started creating and hit a ton of bumps a long the way, but soon found a method I loved and began working.
Here is a Gryphon after I finally figured out the wings.
So anyway. I really enjoyed making them and they are a huge stress relief. All those feathers have to be hand placed and I think on this guy it ended up being around 70 feathers, lol. Still I get in the zone.
I started to make quite a few of them and they began filling up space. My wife loved them and happens to own an Etsy shop so she asked if I would put them up there. So even though selling my art sometimes make me uncomfortable I agreed.
If anyone wants to check them out I have a Deviant Art here. Deviant Art.
If anyone wants to take one home or knows someone who would or likes handmade jewelry here is the Etsy. Etsy Store.
Anyway my next post will be my cover reveal. I have been around to some, but I want to wish everyone good luck on their A-Z this year. As always, have fun and keep writing.
Very good!
ReplyDeleteThey look like a mixture between bunnies, dragons, and gremlins. Yes, an odd mix, but that's what I see.
Looking forward to your next cover!
Thanks.
DeleteI think that is a pretty apt description actually.
I love Gryphons. My summer league bowling team is called the Gryphons - winter league is the Dragons. Mercedes Lackey writes a lot about Gryphons.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome. I want to bowl with you now, lol.
DeleteI keep meaning to read some of her stuff.
Those are amazing!! I thought they were stuffed animals at first. I'm so jealous of your talent!
ReplyDeleteThank you. It took me a while to get anything I liked out of it.
DeleteI once made a clay coffee mug in art class and the handle fell off before I even got it home, so I'm amazed you can do that with clay! That Gryphon is absolutely amazing. I love his green eyes, too. They're so piercing.
ReplyDeleteI am a big fan of his myself. Yeah I made a few bad ones that didn't quite make it.
DeleteThese are so cute! And I love gryphons.

You are so talented. I'm sure I'd end up making rocks. Ha!
ReplyDeleteHey nothing wrong with rocks. Thank you.
DeleteThank you. I don't feel so young, lol.
ReplyDeleteThe rabbits are adorable and I love the Gryphon. You have oodles of talent. I find I escape into other creative pursuits (besides writing) when I feel overwhelmed by it all too. Looking forward to seeing your cover. Untethered Realms / MPax
