My Kids.

(Last Halloween)

I usually write about...well, writing. It is a big topic for me and when I sit down to do a blog I tend to focus on that subject. With Summer here once again the time I get to spend with my kids increases, bed times are later and they are home throughout the day. So I figured today I'd talk a little bit about the two awesome little people I share my life with.

Anastasia my oldest. She is me reborn as a girl.  Although lately she has reached the age that she is liking the more girly things in life. Still this is my movie buddy (since her brother can't stand anything scary) and she is a little cheerleader for my writing. I am always amazed by how focused she is, since she was five(I kid you not) she has wanted to be a chef. She will find recipes and get us to let her make them. Now I won't be shocked if she hits 18 and wants to become a marine biologist or a rodeo clown, but for now I get to reap the delicious rewards of her wanting to be a chef(did I mention she likes making cupcakes?).

Gabriel is quite different from me. He is more like his mother, which isn't a bad thing. Still if he got one thing from me it was his imagination. We have been reading The Rithmatist (Brandon Sanderson) together taking turns reading parts out loud. If you talked to Gabe you'd instantly fall in love, he has a way of saying things you wouldn't expect a nine year old to say. I remember when he was six I asked him why he colored on the wall, his response was, "I had not thought on it much past it being fun, though if I concentrate on it now I can see why you'd be angry." Not smiling at that moment was an impossible task.

I have said before how much these two inspire me to keep working hard on becoming a successful author. To be able to show them they can follow their dreams is every bit my goal as anything else.

Anyway that is some of my family, they are away at their grandmother's so that is probably why I feel all gushy about them at the moment.. As always have fun and keep writing.

  6. Aw, Brandon I loved meeting your kids. They are awesome. I, too, have a little chef wanna be. She even has her own blog-Faith's A Foodie. Check it out if you get a chance. Having a kid that wants to be a chef has been a huge benefit to me and my house. She already cooks better than me. I always say, when Faith cooks, everybody wins. Especially ME. LOL

Your kids are amazing! And I'm with your son, I can't handle watching scary movies either :)

    1. That is cool, I will check it out for sure. Yeah she is getting good herself, she likes cakes and stuff a lot. She just made a caramel cake with chocolate icing.

Yeah he is a trip, if it even seems like it might be scary he is gone.

  7. You have beautiful kids, Brandon! I also with Gabriel, I hate scary movies and tend to watch behind a pillow (so... not really watching at all!). And a budding chef in the family... now that's lucky!!!

    1. Thank you, I love scary movies, though I have watched them since a kid so it is harder to get scared these days. Yep she makes some good stuff.

  8. Funny how different children in the same family can be. I have never met a parent that doesn't gush, I hope you all give each other plenty of reasons to gush about each other over the years.

  9. Happy Blitz!

Your daughter really does love scary things, judging by her past Halloween costume. I've never understood that love.

  12. You have beautiful kids! My son didn't decide to be a chef until he was 9, when he took over the BBQ pit. He will start culinary school soon.

Keep writing, and reaching, and enjoy the quiet while they are at grandma's house!

  21. Aw, what a great idea for a post! I haven't done a family post in a while and now you're making me want to . . . I'm a teacher so I'm home all summer with my daughters, ages 9 & 13. This summer is so much fun b/c while I'm writing, they've both decided to write their own books :-) Pleasure to meet you today!

  22. Hello Brandon. I am here as part of DL Hammon's blog blitz. It is such fun to find other parents blogging about their kids. I have an 18 yr old son and 15 yr old daughter and sometimes I worry i talk about them too much. I am forming a post about their singing talents with video from a recent cruise I will share. I am glad to read about the kids that light up your life. Keep staring the insecurity monster square in the eye. You are stronger than he every day!
