This group is for people in the writing world to express their insecurities or help others with theirs. If you would like to join up click here.

This month I am not so insecure as I am reflective. This weekend we had a Birthday party for my youngest. This means it has been one year since I made the post where I announced his arrival to the world.

The party was fun, if tiring(as they usually are). I always make a cake for my kids' 1st and so I did again this time. I was a little rusty, but it came out okay.

We had Monsters theme because he loves them, so he got to where this cute little outfit.

So why am I writing about this here? Well it isn't just to show off my cute baby. It has to do with that year, now gone. It is hard for me to understand that another one has slipped away. I feel like I was just telling you guys about him for the first time.

We writers have a saying in this business 'It isn't a sprint, it's a marathon.' I believe that wholeheartedly. With all that it takes to write these stories and build our fan base and grow and learn, nothing can be expected to happen quickly.

Still, when these moments happen it really makes you start to think on it all. For me it has really been an inspiration to be more driven. I am truly ready to be the whole person I have always wanted to be, the whole artist I have wanted to be.

I think that maybe time moves fast when we aren't looking. When we let stress and insecurities eat up our moments. I for one am ready to use all of my time wisely.

Anyway, how is everyone else doing? As always have fun and keep writing.

  1. You did a great job with the cake. And has it been a whole year? It doesn't seem that long.
I think time also speeds up as you get older.

  2. Awesome cake! And the cutest baby ever! Happy 1st to D ;)
Great reflection, btw. Makes perfect sense. Have fun using that time wisely!

  3. That cake is awesome! So much better than I would've done. And your baby is adorable. :)

The years do seem to go by fast. I wish they'd slow.

  4. Nice cake, Brandon. Hope you saved a slice for me. Your baby is adorable. Happy Birthday to your baby.

  5. That cake looks awesome! And your baby is adorable. :)

  6. Very nice cake and costume. My time is trying to slip away, but I'm making efforts to use at least most of it to my benefit. That doesn't necessarily mean I'm getting any writing done, but I have a lot of stuff vying for my time, so I can be extremely productive for days without ever getting any writing done.

  7. Great cake, cute costume. It does seem like you just announced his arrival last month. Time flies, that's how you know you're getting old.

  8. The older we get, the faster time passes.

  9. It is definitely a common perception that time speeds up as you get older. I'm getting really old because time is whipping by for me these days. Love the cake. I like Monsters Inc too.

  10. Wow, it's been a year already? Amazing!

  11. Time really does seem to be slipping away quickly. I will make a plan to sit down and do something - writing, reading, editing, reviewing - and next thing I know it three days later and I'm still making the same plan for the same task. I am learning to cherish moments of success.

  12. Happy B-day to your adorable baby boy. And I remember quite well when you announced your son's birth, and I feel like it was just yesterday! How did a year fly by us like that? Wow.

That cake looks amazing and it made me smile because my nephew (who's four) has a thing for blue cake. That's the only kind he will eat. He's not happy unless his teeth, tongue and lips are completely dyed blue after eating it too.
